Quiet please… recording!

For a while now I’ve be pushing towards the stabilisation of my setup so that I can focus on improving my production skills and producing worthwhile work, as opposed to constantly re-patching and re-learning.   I recently picked up a 2012 Mac Mini “Server” with i7 Quad which is smooth, powerful and everything I need for production.

I now have two distinct sets of gear.

Live Improvisation:

  • Nord MicroModular (sometimes with Shbobo Shnth)
  • Macbook Air
  • Boss RC505 Loopstation as looper and audio interface
  • Leap Motion to Macbook
  • Beatstep to MicroMod and NanoKontrol2 to Macbook

Studio Production:

  • MacMini i7 Quad “Server”
  • Nord Modular Rack
  • Roland V-Synth
  • Arturia MicroBrute
  • Casio CZ101
  • KMI QuNexus
  • Novation LaunchControl XL
  • and when I can drag my son away from Fruit Ninja, an iPad 2.

The Improvisation setup has iterated through a number of trials with my friends Paul and Joe to narrow down the smallest amount of gear to be flexible while remaining fun to play with and capable of producing full-sounding works from scratch.

This blog may not see much activity for the next six months as I intend to focus on producing and refining works rather than talking about it.

I’m also downscaling to a free Soundcloud account.  While SC is useful for posting examples here, most likes and reposts appear to be made by robots these days.  I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be better to put stuff on YouTube?

Thanks for reading and I hope you will lend me your ears at the end of this journey.
